Rajasthan's smooth, arrow-straight highways across the Thar desert are an absolute dream for road trippers. This 600km itinerary takes you from the bustling Pink City of Jaipur deep into the golden heart of Jaisalmer.
Day one begins with breakfast at Jaipur before taking the state highway to Pushkar and Ajmer. After paying respects at the sacred Brahma Temple and watching the evening lake aarti, drive onward toward the Sun City of Jodhpur.
Mehrangarh Fort rises like an enormous stone sentinel above the maze of indigo houses. Spend a day exploring Umaid Bhawan Palace and savoring spicy Mirchi Vadas and Mawa Kachoris at clock tower chowk.
On day three, the vegetation thins as you take NH11 through Pokhran toward the border town of Jaisalmer. The Golden Fort (Sonar Qila) gleams like a sandcastle in the afternoon sun. Complete the adventure with a luxury desert safari camp among the Sam sand dunes, enjoying folk Kalbelia dances, bonfires, and stargazing in the pristine desert sky.
